The Difference Between A Diploma And Degree

In this competitive world, education is still the best road to pave in order to reach our goals or at least to get us a train ticket to employment. However, the educational system has revolutionized over the years. It has now become too specialized where students have endless options. So, what is the correct path? Students generally have two choices after graduating highschool. Students could enroll in a pre-university programme like a University Foundation or an A-level to qualify for a degree.  Furthermore, students can also select diploma studies that would allow them to step into the workforce before continuing their degree. Students’ higher education needs are served with different programmes.

Diploma programmes concentrate on improving practical skills associated with a degree programme. What Is A Degree?

A Bachelor’s degree is a 3-4 year programme that arranges students for entry-level jobs and educates in-depth knowledge about a field of study. Students will concentrate on learning a specific subject during their 3-4 years of study, this is called a major. A Bachelor’s degree needs higher requirements compared to a diploma. Students must achieve either a pre-university or a diploma programme before they can study for a degree. The minimum entry condition for degree programme is a pass in all your pre-university subjects. Other universities may have additional requirements. You can register for a degree if you have 5 UEC credits.

Diploma vs Degree

Selecting a diploma or degree is the main decision that influences your finances and time. Here are some suggestions to help you plan.

Take your grades into consideration. Registering for a pre-university or diploma programme will vary on your SPM, O-level or UEC results meeting specific minimum requirements. For instance, a student with 3 UEC credits will need to register into a pre-university or diploma programme, instead of a degree.

Consider your finances. Make sure you can afford your degree or diploma by planning your education cost and developing scholarships or deals.

Know your personal interests and inclinations. Before deciding a programme you should contemplate if it matches your passion and personal strengths. For instance, a student who is good at chemistry and enjoys health and lifestyle would stand out in a degree in food science or nutrition.
