Strangest Animals You Might Spot While Diving

The ocean is endless. We are yet to discover half of the entire ocean.  There are thousands of species that are yet to be named and the ones we have discovered need much research. Along the course of discovery, many divers have spotted various bizarre types of marine creatures. Some are cute, some are scary and some are incredibly colorful. Each species and animal gives us a new piece of information about life underwater. It is always a fascinating experience to uncover the hidden truths of underwater life and to beagle to witness it is an even greater blessing.

So what are such extremely strange yet cute animals we might discover while we are on a diving expedition with our friends and researchers from diving classes  Malaysia and all over the world? The discoveries and findings we make in the ocean have a profound impact on marine research and our own knowledge. So keep an eye out for some of these bizarre, cute and vibrant creatures of the ocean.

Sea angels

Sea angels got their name for their literal angelic presence. They look unreal and something fictional but it is very real in the world of diving. Sea angels are actually small sea slugs or snails. Except that they are much more glittery and vibrant than your average snail. They are completely translucent so we are able to see their organs in beautiful hues of orange and pinks. Their fins resemble wings. And they propel forward to swim. So don’t be surprised if you feel like they are actually flying in the ocean. They are also extremely small in size and their diet consists of sea butterflies, ironically these are close relative to the sea angels species. Sea angels also have a very unique feature among all sea creatures. They have gender fluidity, meaning they can switch genders.

Flamingo tongue snail

Another bizarre creature living in the ocean is the flamingo tongue snail. Feasting on soft corals, they are extremely small and gentle creatures of the ocean. They can only grow up to mere 3cms and can be spotted if you are diving along the Caribbean island or the southern Florida waters. Flamingo tongue snails are easy to spot and attractive given their colors and vibrance in the ocean but this vibrance is not for their beauty. It is a weapon to protect themselves. This is their mechanism of keeping away all the predators at bay.

Leafy seadragon

Ever seen a leafy seadragon? Unfortunately, it is not shaped like a leaf or a dragon. However, they are like close cousins of seahorses and share a close resemblance with seahorses. However their leafy got added to their name because of their seaweed-like structure. They have leafies surrounding their body that are near-transparent and give them the perfect camouflage among seaweeds. They are beautiful to the ocean and unfortunately, this beauty also meant it caught the eyes of humans. A lot of divers tend to keep these sea dragons as pets and this is a threat to their existence and survival.
